The Liberty Colony was founded because there needs to be a group of people actively working to create the free society we all deserve. The freedom movement is composed of a variety of groups to include conservatives, libertarians, anarcho-capitalists, minarchists and a variety of other variously named groups. The Freedom movement is wonderful in rhetoric but lacks coherent action. Many of the freedom based web sites have excellent articles and vivid discussions in the forums about all the ideas and intricacies relating to freedom. After reading and discussing these ideas one usually comes to the question of what are we going to do about it?
Here is where the freedom movement fails to deliver to the people seeking freedom. Many freedom lovers believe either that the task is hopeless and there will never be a free society or that the only thing that can be done is to educate other people in the hopes that they eventually will vote in sufficient numbers to change the government.
The Liberty Colony rejects the idea that our freedom is dependent on the approval of others. The Liberty Colony knows that we are as entitled to freedom as we are entitled to breathing. The Liberty Colony also rejects the idea that nothing can be done.
When one discovers that people have a right to be free and that governments initiating force against the individual is morally wrong then the individual has four basic options:
1. Do nothing - Live your life, accept the situation and focus on other matters. There were plenty of people during the U.S. Revolution that chose this option. It is understandable because to attempt change means to take some risk. The Liberty Colony wants more for the lives of people who believe in freedom than to simply accept their current tyranny.
2. Flee in place - This person understands the truth of freedom but does not want to openly resist the tyranny they face nor do they wish to leave. This person often discusses freedom, but takes no visible action, they might avoid paying some taxes or give some assistance to others in the freedom movement. During the U.S. Revolution these would have been the people who contributed financially or gave some other general support to the revolution. These would be the people that supported the early Pilgrims by providing finances and supplies from England. The Liberty Colony recognizes that not all people will be able to move to the Liberty Colony. Many of you who love freedom now have the opportunity to give your financial support and other general support to something that you can believe in and be a part of. These people are the friends and supporters of the Liberty Colony.
3. Flee to another Place - These people understand that their current environment can not be changed, and that they must move to another location where there essentially is no government. The ancestors of the U.S. Founding Fathers are in this category. They realized that the King of England and his forces were far too powerful to resist in England and that the only opportunity was to move away from that area to a place where they would be free to develop their own society. The Liberty Colony falls into this category. The Liberty Colony knows that we must go where tyranny is weak if we have any hope of enjoying the freedom that is our right. These people are the Liberty Colonists.
4. Fight in Place - These people openly violently resist their current governments. The U.S. Founding Fathers fall into this category. There are many active revolutions currently in the world. Although the Liberty Colony accepts that persons have the moral right to do this, we reject this option. The Liberty Colony recognizes that the forces of tyranny in many places are overwhelming and that this is not a realistic alternative. The Liberty Colony focuses on establishing a colony where there is no recognizable tyranny so there will be no need to initiate violence. It is freedom we seek, not conflict.
